Poca Go 2023

In the depths of my being, I had the privilege of participating in the transcendent experience known as the Poca Go Mountain Bike race, held amidst the enchanting landscapes of Pocahontas State Park in Virginia. Although my journey in the realm of mountain biking had only begun a couple of months prior, I found myself captivated by the profound resonance it shared with the art of riding the waves, reminiscent of my surfing endeavors.

Within the confines of this race, a tapestry of trails awaited, each holding its own narrative and calling forth the adventurous spirit within.

The likes of:

Blueberry Hill

Bell Lap

Blue Jay Way

and Corkscrew beckoned, demanding both skill and introspection.

Under a benevolent sky, the sun radiated its golden hues, casting its blessings upon us. With temperatures soaring into the upper 80s, and the humidity tempering its grasp, nature seemed to conspire in our favor. Yet, there was more to this event than the mere pursuit of personal triumph. The Poca Go race existed as a testament to the noble cause of preserving and nurturing the very essence of the park itself. Every revolution of the pedal, every twist and turn, contributed to the harmonious coexistence between human endeavor and the natural world.

As I reflect upon the path I had traversed, I find solace in the knowledge that it was not the laurels of victory that defined this journey. For, among a field of competitors, I secured the fifty-sixth position out of a total of fifty-eight.

Yet, the significance lies not in the numerical placement, but in the profound sense of fulfillment that emanates from crossing the finish line—a testament to the indomitable spirit within each of us.

It is with great anticipation that I cast my gaze towards the horizon of the forthcoming year. The passage of time shall grant me the gift of preparation, enabling me to immerse myself further in the art of training.

With dedication as my compass, I shall strive to ascend higher peaks, both in physical prowess and personal growth. Next year’s race shall be a testament to the ceaseless pursuit of improvement, a harmonious convergence of body, mind, and the untamed spirit within.
